36 weeks pregnant and a light baby

Hi everyone,

I'm currently 36 weeks pregnant. During our last ultrasound at 35w2d, the gynecologist said our baby was underweight (2260g). Any other moms with experience here? I've been worrying constantly about the weight since then..

Not directly experienced with a low weight, but I do have experience with measurements in general. If they measure just 1 mm off, it can already make a big difference in weight!
Both my friends who gave birth this year had babies whose weight completely didn’t match the latest measurements!
So it could also just be that your baby has a perfect weight, but there was simply a measurement error.

No experience with it either, but about the measurements... my baby was measured and they said he'd weigh around 3300/3500 grams. He was born weighing 4380!! So it probably has something to do with what snowflake already said about those measurements..

    Hi,

The measurements are indeed not an exact science. It doesn't mean they're right more often than wrong, but 2200 grams at 35 weeks isn't very little, you know. My daughter was measured at 2700 grams at 35+3 weeks and was born at 41 weeks weighing 3730 grams. They often put on quite a bit of fat towards the end. So she could easily weigh just over 3 kilos soon, and 3 kilos is a good weight, right?

Worrying is tough because it doesn't help, and there's not much you can do except eat healthily and rest.

Good luck with the last exciting weeks.

    Best wishes

Light baby? I'm under the care of my OB-GYN due to breech position, and my baby weighed just under 2600 grams at 35.5 weeks. She said our baby was growing well and had a good weight, nothing to complain about. Still weird how they manage to scare you like that!

35w + 2d our little one weighed 2277 grams and was found to be on the lighter side, but the gynecologist said this was within the limits of normal growth. So I shouldn't worry too much.

My youngest son, estimated to be a small, skinny baby, about 47 cm and 3100/3300 grams.
Born and he was 56 cm and 4500 grams they always make an estimate!

Hi Xavannah, how are things now?
Hope everything is okay (went well).
I was also on a growth protocol for the last few weeks because they thought the baby was too small. I gave birth spontaneously at 35.6 weeks and she was already 2670 grams. About 300 grams heavier than estimated from the measurements, and strong enough to stay in my room right away. Hope the measurements didn’t give you too much worry. And even little babies grow big.
