Sharp pains in the lower abdomen at night

Hi,
I'm currently 29 weeks + 4 days pregnant with our first baby. And last night I barely slept at all.
I already didn't feel well at the start of the evening and went to bed early (very strange abdominal pain, period-like cramps, gassy and lots of burping).
From 9 PM onwards, I got a sharp stab in my lower left abdomen and pubic area every 5 minutes. The baby was also very active meanwhile. I tried lying in different positions in bed but the number of stabs didn't decrease.
From 12 AM onwards, the stabs came about every 30 minutes so I could sleep a bit in between. This lasted all night until 8 AM in the morning. Then I managed to sleep properly until 10 AM.
I'm wondering now what this was, round ligament pain? Or maybe false labor (though that seems a bit early)?
Are such nights recognizable for others? Or should I call the midwife?

I've also been having really bad period-like cramps lately. I was told these are practice contractions or due to the baby dropping.
Around week 30 the baby can start to drop, so that might be what you're feeling. I also get those sharp stabs now and then, and I read that this is more common in the third trimester. If you're still unsure, it doesn't hurt to give your midwife a call—they're available during the day and happy to help put your mind at ease!
