Hi ladies, I have a question. Maybe some of you can speak from experience. I'm just really curious.

I read on many websites that you gain the most weight in the last trimester, but some sites say it's the second trimester. This probably varies a lot from person to person. I'm almost 33 weeks and I notice that it happens very quickly—suddenly you've gained a kilo in two days, and then it stops for a month. That's basically how it's been since the start of my pregnancy.

But my question is, is it true that you don't (need to) gain any more weight from week 36-37 onwards?
The websites I read say everywhere that your baby is basically 'ready' and that you won't gain any more weight from around week 37. Is this true?

I think that's true, you don't really gain much more weight unless you're retaining a lot of fluid in the last few weeks.

That could very well be true. I looked back at my son's pregnancy data, and I actually lost weight in the last few weeks.

Well, I really hope so . I'll step on the scale again tomorrow. I'm now 37 weeks and the last few weeks have been going heeeeeeel fast. While I had gained about 8 kilos until week 30, so it was going so nicely. But anyway, meanwhile I feel like I'm turning into a little Michelin man, long live holding onto the fluid!

I also think it sounds weird, gaining only 2.5 kg in the first 5 months. Then suddenly 2 kg in a week?? Now at 7 months, 8 kg in total.. So a bit scared that I'll suddenly gain a lot in those last 2 months!! Was going so well.. I hope not more than 10 kg..

I’ve also been putting on weight in a weird way. I gained the most during the first trimester, stayed fairly stable in the second, and now I’ve actually lost weight in the third. Honestly, I don’t get it at all, but if it keeps going like this, you won’t hear from me anymore.

I was really scared of gaining a lot of weight!!!

Greetings and good luck with the final stretch,
    Anne

I gained 0 kg until week 37, then I gained 1.5 kg until delivery.

When I read that you’ve gained so little weight and still worry about 5 or 10 kg being too much... pfff... I still have 2 months to go and have gained 20 kg so far. I’m eating only muesli, 2 slices of bread, a small evening meal, vegetables, fruit, and of course water... and still gaining so much. This is my second pregnancy, and with my first one, I gained almost 30 kg in total. It took 2 years to lose it, but I did manage. I’m definitely not the only one here who has gained this much. I actually think 8 kg or 1.5 kg is way too little—where are the reserves you’ll really need later?! Anyway, good luck to everyone with losing those kilos after giving birth

Every body reacts differently to pregnancy. I think you shouldn't focus too much on the pounds, but rather on how you feel about it. And of course, how the baby is doing.

Looking at myself, as described earlier, I gained quite a bit mainly in the first trimester. I have to say I was really startled by this back then. Especially since I had lost quite a bit of weight before the pregnancy. So the fear was real that I would gain a lot. And I know how hard it is to fight those extra pounds. Luckily, things stabilized for me after the first trimester, which I'm personally very happy about. I feel fine now and I know the baby is growing well.

I do agree with you that you'll need some reserves for both the birth and afterwards. Of course, that also depends on whether you'll breastfeed or not. But again, everyone is different. Some need more than others.

Yeah, those pounds remain a tricky issue. Ladies, good luck to all!

    Love,
    Anne

Indeed, that 1.5 kg is quite little. But the baby grew really well, and I ate as I should have. Meanwhile, I've already given birth and now weigh 9 kg less than before the pregnancy, and yes, I'm exclusively breastfeeding.
At first, I was really worried about the baby because my weight stayed the same, but in the end, he weighed 4 kg at birth. So I had no reason to worry.
Good luck to all the pregnant ladies!

I also haven't gained much weight compared to my previous pregnancies. With my first, I gained about 18 kilos, with the second about 14 kilos, and now at (almost) 35 weeks, I've only gained 7 kilos. I don't think I'm eating any differently than before, maybe it's because you're just busier with two kids now... I don't mind it anyway, there's no need to lose a lot after birth, and as long as the baby is growing well, I think everything's fine
