kidneys inflamed/bacteria

Hey Rowan,
I went through exactly the same thing,
and six weeks later I got it again.
It was quite a shock because by the time I went to the hospital, I had excruciating pain and a high fever. I thought it was my back and ended up fainting at the emergency desk.
The second time was the same again; I waited too long to respond to the pain,
and ended up in the hospital for another week.
I've never been so sick before, vomiting, dizzy, shivering with cold, and then my temperature spiked so high that even an icy cold shower didn't cool me down!!

After blood tests, they also found out that my kidneys were affected due to a urinary tract infection.
I've since changed hospitals, and now they test my blood more often, and I had to get "Melagyn" intimate gel to prevent it from happening again.
Otherwise, there's not much you can do!!

    Hi there,

No, I don't have any experience with that. But here's my story. I seriously underestimated everything!

I was admitted to the hospital on the night of Sunday into Monday (September 24). On Saturday evening, September 23, I started having pain in my lower abdomen and lower back. I thought it was just normal pregnancy stuff, so I took some paracetamol and went to sleep. Sunday morning I got up and still had some mild pain, but could still do everything. Later that day, the pain started getting more intense; I could barely walk anymore, so I just lay down on the couch. Once I was on the couch, I started feeling cold, began shivering, and my teeth started chattering. I pulled a blanket over me, and after about half an hour, it got better. I fell asleep Sunday evening too, but woke up a few hours later with the same symptoms (shivering, chattering teeth, feeling cold). Eventually, I called the hospital, and they told me to call the maternity triage (VK). So I called, and they came straight over. They didn't trust it either. At that point, I had a fever of 40 degrees, and the baby's heart rate was over 180! We could go straight to the hospital. I thought I'd be able to go home after a few tests. Nope! I was put on an IV drip that night and also received antibiotics immediately. All in all, I spent a week in the hospital with a urinary tract infection and a kidney infection. Luckily, my fever went down after about 5 days, and the baby also calmed down over the course of the week. On Friday, I was allowed to go home later in the day (nice to be home for the weekend). But I'm still on antibiotics and don't feel like myself yet

So now I'm listening to my body and taking it easy. Something I find really hard...

    Best wishes and good luck!

Wow, you'll be shocked, I tell you.
I went back to the urologist today for a check-up, and as crazy as it sounds, a week later without doing anything else or taking antibiotics, there are no bacteria or inflammation left to find rara How can that be.

Wishing you lots of strength and success too.
    Love, Rowan

Yeah, you freak out. Especially when you think there's not much wrong and that you'll be allowed to go home after a few tests. When I think about it now, I only realize how intense it really was for me...

How it can be... you're over it!!! How nice for you!!! Can you now enjoy your pregnancy more

    Enjoy and good luck!!!

    Greetings,
    Anne

I also had an infection in my kidney, it turned out to be a cyst that was infected. They drained it and luckily I don't have any issues anymore. I was 20 weeks pregnant at the time and ended up spending about 2 weeks in the hospital overall. My symptoms were high fever, severe pain in my side and back, and vomiting.
