Forum 3rd trimester

Ouch, the feeling of painful tight stomachs but it's not a tight stomach!

Ladies, as the topic says, I often feel like I have a painful, hard belly that lasts for about half a minute, goes away, and then comes back again, but it's not actually a hard belly! Any ideas or does this sound familiar?

It’s probably Braxton Hicks, aka practice contractions. These can feel very real and even last for a few hours. The catch is that they’re usually not very regular (unlike real contractions, for example, every 4 minutes and lasting 1 minute) and they don’t get stronger and then weaker again. If that happens, it could be the real deal. In that case, I’d always call your midwife if you’re unsure. Good luck!

    Thanks!
Well, I'm going to VK on Wednesday after all to show her the hair, because sometimes I really have it on for an hour straight with breaks of about 2 minutes!
    So.....

You're welcome. I know the feeling, I've had it myself for quite a while now. From my side, it can be real contractions now .
I hope it goes away quickly for you, (try a warm hot water bottle against your belly) good luck and strength!

I'm really struggling with it again now. If it doesn't get better soon, I'll just go ahead and call the GP!

    Hey Kim,

How are things now? Just give them a call, that's what they're there for,

    Love, Dani

Yeah, it does seem like it’s a bit less now! So I’ll keep an eye on it for a bit longer!
