Last night I lost my water, but not anymore...

Hi,

Last night around 11 pm I had to pee for the umpteenth time. I thought I’d “squeeze” a bit more out, maybe then I wouldn’t need to go for a while. I did this a few times and each time a little wave came. Until suddenly I thought, is this really urine? So I caught some in a cup. It was clear fluid with flakes and didn’t smell like urine. I called the midwife, who immediately suspected amniotic fluid and came over.

She said it looked like amniotic fluid, smelled like amniotic fluid, and she tested it with a special swab that would turn black if it was indeed amniotic fluid. And the test was positive for amniotic fluid.

Since I hadn’t had any contractions by this morning, she sent me to the hospital for tests. First a CTG, then an ultrasound, a swab, and another test to check for amniotic fluid. I had to blow on my hand so she could take a sample and test it. That test was negative, and I was sent home without further ado.

We found the whole thing strange, so we called the midwife again, and she said she’d see me again on Friday for a check-up.

Later she called me back; she had discussed it with her colleague because she also found the story weird and was really convinced that there was amniotic fluid last night.

Now I’m being called again tomorrow morning because they want to keep a close eye on me over the next few days. Meanwhile, I’m supposed to try to catch some more fluid, but that’s not working anymore. After peeing, I wipe myself dry, blow well on my hand, and it does get moist again, but not enough to collect anything.

Does anyone have experience with this? The midwife already mentioned it could be a small tear that’s now being pressed shut by, for example, the baby’s head.

I feel very unsure right now and am very disappointed because I was supposed to be induced tomorrow due to the risk of infection from ruptured membranes. I’m 39 weeks now and was happy that the birth was approaching, and now I’m just put on hold again without any explanation????

I don't really have any advice, but I'm curious how you're doing, Cindy?
It's indeed strange that they sent you home again so easily when it turned out to be about amniotic fluid during the VK check.
