Too much? Gaining weight during pregnancy

Hi everyone,

Quick question. I'm almost 28 weeks pregnant and at my last check-up with the midwife, I was told that based on my weight gain, I need to cut back drastically on sugar. It turns out I've gained a total of 10 kg (from 57 to 67). The baby isn't too big. If I've gained a lot more by the next visit, they'll prick my finger to test my sugar levels. Does anyone have experience with that? Like, getting a finger prick because of weight? I know 10 kg isn't little (this is the third baby), but I've been put on a sort of diet now. No big deal, just curious. Thanks in advance!

Nonsense in my opinion, I normally weigh 53/55, now 63 and it was all fine! My partner said a while back that I could still gain a bit. Also, it's my third baby btw

Haha okay... I gained 30kg during my first two pregnancies... The midwife never weighed me... She just looked at how I was doing. Never tested for sugar either. I did have a lot of amniotic fluid though.

Now pregnant with the third... Really curious. New midwife and she will weigh me.

Ok thanks! And how many weeks are you Mandy?
I'm just reading through some other topics for a moment and it seems like that 10 kg isn't such a big deal after all.. With the other midwives I only gained about 4 kilos after 28 weeks, so I'd be at around 15 now. I don't know why they're being so strict about it now. No soda/juice/cookies/candy etc. I really didn't plan on gaining too much weight, but no more tasty treats anymore
Well, she probably doesn't advise it for nothing. I'll just wait for the next check-up.

I went last week, when I was 29 weeks. So pretty much the same.
The average weight gain for a woman during pregnancy is, I think, 12/13.
So feel free to have a cookie with a glass of soda, haha

Oh girl, it could also be nothing at all. Every pregnancy is different. I'm 27 weeks and have gained 15 kilos. I have a slim build and don't do anything crazy otherwise. My sugar levels are good too. My mom gained 25 kilos back then, so that's probably what's waiting for me too.

I'm now 28 weeks and have gained 13 kg even though I eat relatively little and healthily. At 23 weeks, my midwife advised me to drink water to help with the hunger pangs. Naturally, I complained about this. There's not much you can do to prevent weight gain, after all. You're not allowed to diet anyway.

Oh dear, don't stress and just do what your body needs. In the first 3 months I had a huge appetite, so I just ate more often and more bread. Now I'm 36 weeks and have gained 21 kilos. I'm eating like I did before again, so these are really pregnancy kilos. No cravings otherwise.

    Hi there!

I'm 36 weeks along and have gained 18kg. Everyone keeps saying: "Oh, that'll all fall off again, since you've always been slim!"

Well, I'm pretty sure I'm really going to have to work hard to get back into my old clothes. And as silly or selfish as it might sound, I'm having a hard time with it! But hey, we'll just have to wait and see how it goes. Hopefully, the love for our little one will soon boost my insecurities and low self-esteem a bit!
