Stretching preventively to avoid tears or getting an episiotomy?

    Has anyone done this already? It doesn't look that easy. The rubber model gave well, but in reality...

    I don't have a partner and massaging myself isn't exactly easy with this big belly...
    So I'm just going to guess and start the real thing later without any warm-up...

    What I've understood so far is that tearing is actually less severe than an episiotomy, so I'd personally be less afraid of it. Tears seem to heal better.
    The effect of the oil isn't proven, but it could work.
    A good perineal massage, by the way, is the best way to prevent tears and episiotomies. Expect your midwife to keep you informed and well-guided, then you'll have done everything possible to prevent as much as possible.
    My midwife found a faulty computer more important, so I ended up doing most of it with my partner, and at the last moment still got a poorly placed episiotomy and tearing.
    Despite that, I'd still love a second one!
