insomnia in the third trimester

JojoB
Hi!
I'm currently 37 weeks pregnant and suffering from chronic insomnia. I just can't fall asleep in the evenings, lie awake for hours, tossing and turning, and get at most 4 hours of sleep a night. During the day, I often catch a nap, but no more than 2 hours.
Does anyone relate to this or have any tips???

No tips, just recognition. That's, you know, a way to prepare yourself for the broken nights.
Just like you, I tried to catch a few extra hours during the day. Just like now (gave birth 1 week ago).

Thanks for your reply. First of all, congratulations! You're already enjoying your postpartum period (and broken nights hahaha). Is everything going well?
I didn't have it as bad during my previous 2 pregnancies as I do now.
Well... I guess I'll just keep slugging along with naps in between. A person needs to rest, right?
And I want to be somewhat fit for my delivery later on.

I have it too! I'm 37 weeks pregnant now and often wake up for hours at night. It's indeed preparation for the sleepless nights. I don't really have any other issues with it... sometimes I do lie down for an hour in the afternoon, but I have to say I do that very rarely.

I don't really have issues with it either... I do take my rest at other times when I can. It's more that I sometimes find the nights so long and get bored... then I'd rather sleep Hahaha.
What do you guys do at night? Do you stay in bed or do you really do something else?

I'm also almost 37 weeks pregnant and often wake up at night. So in the afternoon I try to get a few extra hours of sleep.

I'm now 33 weeks and have been sleeping terribly for a while. I wake up around 3 am and can't get back to sleep. I don't know what to do. It's frustrating because you feel so sluggish throughout the day. It's gotten a bit better since I bought a large nursing pillow. It's easier to lie on it.

I got this one at Prenatal.
    Good luck with your pregnancy.

Hey, it's really nice to read that I'm not the only one dealing with this... In the beginning of my pregnancy, I was sooo tired I could sleep the clock around. And now hahahaha..... drama.
I do have a good nursing pillow. But even with that, I sometimes argue with it at night. I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet for a while longer. From experience, I know that once you've given birth and are in the night-feeding routine, you'll fall asleep as soon as you're near your pillow again.
Wishing you all a lovely Christmas in advance!

So relatable! And that nursing pillow... haha... I don't find it handy in bed at all.
For me, it's my restless legs and the active baby who mostly keep me awake at night, so frustrating!!

My baby is indeed super active at night too. Glad I'm not the only one who's struggling with the nursing pillow, hahaha. How far along are you?

I'm now 38 weeks and so many days. I have to admit I don't know exactly... I was due on January 8th anyway. And you?

So relatable, ladies! This is my first pregnancy and I'm now 38 weeks and 2 days.
I've been sleeping poorly for 5 months. It's driving me crazy, making me sad and frustrated.
Since the third trimester, I basically don't sleep at night. Exceptionally, I get broken 2.5 hours of sleep, so that I can sleep here and there during the day if my ailments allow...
The cause for me is mainly all possible ailments you can have at this stage and partly the tension for the birth.
(Itching, cramps, sharp stabs in my vagina, carpal tunnel syndrome, 2000 times to the toilet, here blood pressure and pain surges due to an active big baby)
Sorry for the complaining, you probably recognize it.
I would so like to be more rested for the birth.
Really starting fit is an illusion that I've realized.
Hopefully there are experiences of coming to the 'blanket feeling' in the contractions... and then still finding strength for the birth.

I have to get up every 2-3 hours at night to pee. I guess it's good preparation for what's coming. Usually I manage to fall back asleep, but sometimes I get into too active a mode and start making all kinds of to-do lists in my head (nesting instinct for sure). Because I have a lot of pelvic instability, getting in and out of bed is really difficult, especially since I also have to turn a nursing pillow. Once I'm lying down again, that pillow is bliss. I'm now 34 weeks pregnant.
