Bed rest at 33 weeks

Hi lovely mamas and mamas-to-be

Yesterday we got a tour of the maternity ward and the postnatal ward! I felt fully prepared... until the midwife noticed that I was having a really hard time compared to all the other pregnant women there..

You see, I have a standing job in retail and over the weekend I really overdid it. On Sunday evening I took a relaxing bath, but afterwards I couldn't get out of it. Luckily my partner helped me and I tried to take it easy for the last 2 days..

The midwife asked what I was feeling and immediately sent me back to the maternity ward to be monitored on the monitor. What turned out: I had already had 5 hours of regular contractions or hardening of the belly. The gynecologist did an internal exam and saw that, luckily, I didn't have any dilation yet (since it was already the second or third time that week I had such a period), but that the baby was already pushing well with its head down.

Honestly, I didn't think it was that serious until the gynecologist gave me 2 weeks of bed rest, medication to definitely delay labor and slow down the contractions, and also prescribed magnesium for the cramps. She immediately talked about an injection to help the lungs mature faster if it didn't improve after a week, and that after two weeks, if it didn't improve, I had to go back, but then to be admitted...

Of course, I barely slept last night due to the tension in my belly, but also because of the worry.

Are there any mamas or mamas-to-be who have experienced this? Should I take steps already in case it turns out to be a premature birth? I feel a bit guilty because I feel like I haven't taken good care of my baby in the last few weeks by always wanting to keep working...
Will it be a premature birth? Anyone have tips for me to stay calm?

Big kiss xxx

Maybe taking it easy will help a lot. I’d definitely listen to the advice. With a book on the couch or in bed and leave the housework to others for now. See if that helps. You can definitely tell the difference. Others work until the last minute and don’t have any issues, while you happen to have them now. A baby and your body decide when the baby arrives. So take it easy for now and hope the baby stays put for a few more weeks.

No experience, but I've heard stories around me, mostly like "stay calm, the baby stays calm." That sounds like you too, if you stay calm, it should be calm now, but that's really tough. Trust that it'll be okay. You've got this. Premature birth isn't fun, but nowadays things usually work out fine. I'm rooting for you that the baby stays in there for a long time and everything goes well.

How are you doing now, Cindy?

Not really better yet. As soon as I have to stand up, I get short of breath and I get pain again at the bottom of the uterus in waves, and the hard stomachs are really painful. I'm also getting a bit worried, because I've had loose stools for over a week now even though I'm eating more, but I've lost 800 g compared to 2 weeks ago and our little man has gained 500 g... Is this okay? I had only gained 3.2 kg then...
